Now, I'll finally be able to get past the third line of "Coney Island Washboard Serenade!"

To follow up regarding the host of camper AAs, I was under the impression that Chris Owen (not Arnold, who was on staff that year) got his AA that last year. Chris Arnold did do well at archery, but fell short of the 100 points at 50 yards unfortunately.

Hey Jim,
Nice article. I am glad to see this up and running again. It was a long year of checking this page nearly daily and seeing nothing.
Anyhoo, fact check time: Glenn Laatsch certainly got his AA, and he was the youngest person in Shewahmegon history to get it. He was either 7 or 8 when he achieved it. You are correct though about Chris Arnold, and him getting to 40 but no further. I also seem to remember Jordan getting his (although I could be wrong), but it seemed like a thing for him to do just to spite Alex.

Keep up the good work!

Brent,
First, what camp achievements hadn't Tim at one point demolished? I presume on top of accomplishing all of camp's greatest honors, Tim had also defended Shewahmegon in a Swiis Family Robinson-esque fashion from an army of rabid bears. Informing me that Tim is an American Archer is liking telling me Michael Jordan has a garage full of nice cars. I assume it is fact and then quickly put t out of my mind as it seems all to obvious.

As for the others, I was under the impression that both Chris and Jordan brought the Arnold family to the 160 at 40 yards, but not past. My memory is addled by age though, so I may be in correct. Apologies to both Chris and Jordan if I'm wrong here.

I think Glenn, despite the prowess of his magnificent sternum, also fell short of the AA (an great boon in life, though not on the archery range). Alex "The Trevinator" Trevor, however, I can indeed confirm was an American Archer. I shot with him at 50 yards after he'd achieved the award.

JIM. I know that Tim Will was also an American Archer on staff that year. I did make it down to the range a couple times that year, which I always enjoyed. I probably did that when I was doing the program for the day...

What I find more amazing is that there were several American Archers among the ranks of the campers that year. Jordan, Glenn, Chris, Alex?

Man, I could fill a blog with just my poop stories from camp. So, if that strikes your fancy, stay tuned! I have so many more!

The group poops of camp led me to buddy poop with numerous amigos in High School. I once found a bomb threat graphitti-scrawled in the stall during a HS buddy poop, but that is a story for another time.

Jim,
This was one of the best memories I have heard about #2 in a long time. I felt it appropriate to share my memories about #4... stall #4 in the green latrine.
Besides the abundant northern Wisconsin woods, there were two "designated" bathrooms in Camp Shewahmegon: the green and brown latrine. Unlike most modern bathrooms, the stalls of the green and brown latrine had no doors on them. Furthermore, the stall walls in the green latrine were not terribly long, so your legs always stuck out a few inches. Instead of a bathroom community built on common shame of doing your business in public, we boys and men made a community of joy and celebration. With our pants around our ankles, we chatted about anything that came to our heads: the daily events, a new joke or story, and even congratulating friends for their invigorating sounds and smells that they were contributing to the conversation.
In the green latrine, there were five stall in a row. Everyone had their own favorite stall, and mine was number 4. Stall 1 was way to out in the open. You had the cross traffic of folks entering the latrine, along with the urinal conversations next door. I hardly used number 1 unless I was in a real pinch. 2 and 3 were some better. The problem with 2 was the toilet itself. There was something wrong it, either it got clogged a lot or was too tall. 3 was fine, except you were right in the middle of the action, to have a conversation with everyone around you, you had to always turn your head back and forth. For me 4 was the perfect spot. It had a great height and feel to it along with a good location with respect to conversation and traffic.
All in all, I miss the group BM. Nothing relaxes your colon like good friends and good conversations. Three cheers to the green latrine!

Hey david, I did not banish you from playing cause i wanted to watch you squirm...when I did not want people to play it was because I did not want to play, and so I needed people to play somehting else with me....If I allowed you to play I would have no one to play star wars cards with!

I liked a lot of your points DR. While every camp has so many different things to add, one thing I defiently appreiciate from camp was being able to explore and adventure on my own. Whether it was on a hike, or just in the woods on the way up from the A field I loved to discover new things in a place that seemed untouched in the wild. Being in a rural woodsy area it was great to branch off from the group and look for something exciting or weird. It was always the best to find a goofy looking mushroom or nickel sized frog, sometimes you wanted to find it to be the first and show the group, othertimes it was solely for my own entertainment. Going to camp allows you to discover yourself and to feed the desire to discover.

Night HIKES...To this day I learned the most terriyfing game on night hikes. David you will recall. WHen you have a faint bit of light you stair at your cabinmates face and as you do it starts to manipulate and change into some scary-horrid monster. i do not know the science behind how this works, whether it be that your eyes are playing tricks due to the small amount of light or if it is a mind game. Either way, as a young child it will freak you out!!!!

Also I had a dream last night where I found a flag in Capture the three flags, but glenn was guarding it and I could not escape his lanky reach. Every time I tried to bolt out of the safe zone with it he would tag me. He never took me to jail though... he let me become free, which then I would try to get the flag again and he would tag me. We lost the game!
